Long, hot and exhausting - but what a nice walk! A great combination of stunnings views, nice small trails and this sheer rockface on the eastern side. Thank you for sharing this walk!

Thanks so much to Steve for the walking route. I spent a great day criss-crossing round the rock, enjoying the views, and eating lunch without interference from the monkeys. The route was great, in a couple of places where i wasn't sure of the instructions i had photos to keep me on the right path!

We walked this route on a sunny day at the beginning of March 2020 and enjoyed it very much. Steve kindly provided the PDF instructions and we followed the written directions (which were excellent). It's worth noting that if you do elect to do a few of the 'off-piste' options e.g. O'Hara's battery, walking on from the Windsor bridge, walking to the end of the Great Siege tunnel, St Michael's caves, Moorish Castle, etc you will add a fair bit of extra mileage (and ascent!) and time to your walk. But well worth it. We ended up walking around 7 miles (and 3600' ascent) even though we skipped the Med steps (girlfriend not good with heights) and spent pretty much the whole day (10am - 5pm) walking from Casemates square and back again, but we took our time - with quite a few breaks (cafe at St. Michael's caves recommended, quirky decor, good coffee - cafe at top of Cable car worth visiting for toilets & view, cafe itself very average). You will need decent footwear and a hat / sunglasses / sun-block / water etc as well as something warm (we were in the shade for an hour or two at the beginning and it was fairly chilly) so well worth taking a backpack for your stuff. All in all a really good walk on a lovely day, we saw some beautiful Spring flowers and 100 or more Red Kites flying over from Africa to Spain. We ended up spending £13 (£5 initially, then a £8 "upgrade") each on our Upper Rock passes which included entry to the Moorish Castle, St. M caves & Great Siege tunnels. I'm not sure if our tickets included access to O'Hara's battery, but it was open and interesting to wander around, but there was no-one there to check our tickets in any case. Great Siege exhibition (free) worth a swift visit too. Thanks Steve!

Really good walk, the route along Martin's Path has changed slightly, but you do rejoin the route and it makes little difference to the overall distance. And as everyone says be properly prepared water, hat, suncream and sunnies are essentials
