Maps and trails
Geographically, Vilshofen is located on the Danube and surrounded by green hills. It is known for its breathtaking scenery and the many outdoor activities you can do here. The town itself has a long history and was an important trading centre in the Middle Ages.

Touristic sights are numerous: For example, visit the town square with its colourful houses or stroll along the Danube river on the cycle path. For those interested in culture, there are also some highlights such as Wolfstein Castle or the "Haus am Strom" museum.

Another highlight are the culinary delights of the region - be sure to try the famous "Vilshofener Zwiebelrostbraten" or enjoy a cold beer in one of the traditional breweries.

If it rains, we can recommend a visit to the Vilsbiburger Therme or take a tour of one of the museums. A trip to Passau is also worthwhile in bad weather!

In summer, hiking through the nearby mountains is a great option, as well as cycling tours along the Danube river - it's especially beautiful here at sunset time! In winter, on the other hand, skiing is a great option in the nearby mountains.

Overall, Vilshofen is definitely worth a trip - whether for nature lovers, culture enthusiasts or gourmets. We hope this guide will help you make the most of your stay here!

This gravel tour was a great adventure for us. We started the tour in Passau following the Donau to Regensburg. This gave us two days to to get us a little into it. It broke the part of the Donau into two, we ended the tour in 8 days in Passau. Instead of following the GPX we sometimes followed the indications of the official cycling tours to stay away from busy traffic.
