Südlohn

Südlohn lies on the edge of the Hohe Mark-Westmünsterland nature park and is surrounded by picturesque meadows, fields and forests. Its geographical location makes it an ideal starting point for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling or horseback riding. In summer, the nearby Aquarius leisure pool with its numerous water attractions attracts young and old alike.

An absolute highlight are the historic wind and water mills in the vicinity of Südlohn - including the oldest still functioning Dutch windmill in Germany, dating from 1748! Vornholz Castle is also worth a visit: here you will not only find a hotel but also a restaurant with regional cuisine.

For culture lovers there is also much to discover: The Heimathaus impressively shows the everyday life of past times as well as traditional handicrafts from the region. Every year, the popular "Heimatfest" takes place here - a colourful hustle and bustle full of music, dancing and culinary delights.

If you are looking for an indoor activity in bad weather, you should visit the museum "Haus Terhörne". Here the history of the region is vividly presented and there are changing exhibitions on various topics.

Südlohn is also known for its culinary specialities: be sure to try the famous "ham from the Münsterland", a regional delicacy, or enjoy a cold beer in one of the cosy inns.

In autumn, we recommend a visit to one of the numerous farmers' and weekly markets - here you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables as well as handmade products directly from the producer.
