Discover the region

Geographically, Schwarzenborn is located on the edge of the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park and is surrounded by dense forests and rolling hills. The region is characterised by its unspoilt nature, which is perfect for hiking, cycling tours or simply relaxing.

One of the most important sights in Schwarzenborn is Friedrichstein Castle. The imposing building dates back to the 17th century and today houses a museum with an impressive collection of historical works of art. The nearby Haydau Monastery is also worth a visit: here you can not only admire the baroque building, but also take part in guided tours and learn more about the history of this special institution.

The annual Herzberg Castle Festival - one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany - provides cultural highlights in particular! Music lovers get their money's worth here: numerous bands play rock, blues or reggae music on various stages until late into the night.

Schwarzenborn also has a lot to offer in the way of culinary delights: The regional cuisine focuses mainly on hearty dishes such as "Schwarzbierbraten" (roast black beer) or "Ahle Wurscht", a typical sausage speciality from North Hesse. Those who like it a little sweeter should definitely try the "Schwarzenborner Schmandschnitzel" - a traditional dish with a delicious cream sauce.

If it rains, a visit to the town and district library is a good idea: Here you can browse comfortably or also take part in various events such as readings. The Schwarzenborn indoor swimming pool is also a good option for a rainy day: here you can swim, take a sauna or simply relax.

No matter what time of year you come to Schwarzenborn - the nature here is always breathtakingly beautiful! In spring and summer, numerous wildflowers bloom along the wayside and invite you to take long walks through the woods. In autumn, the leaves turn colourful and provide a picturesque backdrop for hiking or cycling. And in winter, the region is transformed into a true winter wonderland - perfect for skiing, sledding or ice skating on the nearby Edersee!

In total, Schwarzenborn is definitely worth a trip: the idyllic location in the middle of nature, paired with the numerous sights and outdoor activities make this little town a real insider tip among German destinations. So let's go - we look forward to welcoming you as our guest!
