Geographical location and special features

Ronneburg is located about 30 kilometres southeast of Gera in Thuringia. The town is known for its impressive castle complex perched high on a hill. Greiz, on the other hand, is a little further north and is part of the Vogtland district. Here there are many picturesque parks and gardens as well as a beautiful old town with half-timbered houses.

Tourist-relevant sights

In Ronneburg you should definitely visit the castle - it dates back to the 13th century and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding valley. Obernzella Castle is also a must-see: today it houses a museum on the history of the region.

In Greiz, a walk through the Fürstlich Greizer Park or along the banks of the Elster with its numerous bridges is particularly worthwhile.

Cultural Highlights and Events

A highlight in Ronneburg is the annual Medieval Festival in summer: here visitors can immerse themselves in times gone by and marvel at knights' tournaments and craftsmanship.

In Greiz, the Vogtland Festival takes place every year in July - here there is music, dancing and many culinary delights.

Culinary specialities

In the region around Ronneburg, you should definitely try the Thuringian Rostbratwurst - a local speciality. In Greiz, on the other hand, the Vogtland meat dumplings are very popular: these are dumplings made of boiled potato dough with minced meat filling.

Outdoor activities and best seasons

If you like hiking or cycling, both places are ideal for a trip into nature. In spring and summer, numerous flowers and plants bloom here - a beautiful sight!

What to do in Ronneburg when it rains

Even if the weather doesn't cooperate, there is plenty to do: Visit the museum in Obernzella Castle, for example, or enjoy regional specialities in a cosy restaurant.

Where is it most beautiful?

The view from Ronneburg Castle is particularly impressive: From up here you have a fantastic view of the surrounding countryside. The Fürstlich Greizer Park with its many sculptures and fountains is also a real highlight.

Total

Ronneburg and Greiz are definitely worth a visit! Whether culture, nature or culinary delights - everyone gets their money's worth here. Use this travel guide as inspiration for your next holiday!

Also Proviant einpacken!
