Geographically, Rattenberg lies on the banks of the Danube River and is surrounded by picturesque hills. The town has a long history and was an important trading centre in the Middle Ages. Today it is known for its well-preserved old town with narrow streets and historic buildings.

One of Rattenberg's main attractions is Egg Castle, an impressive 16th century building. Here visitors can tour the richly decorated interiors or take a stroll through the well-kept castle park.

Cultural highlights include the annual music festival in summer and the numerous art exhibitions in the Galerie am Markt. For culinary delights, be sure to visit one of the traditional Bavarian restaurants, where you can sample local specialities such as pork knuckle or white sausage.

If it's raining outside, there's still plenty to do - visit the Museum of Folklore, for example, or take a guided tour of the Schnitzlbaumer brewery.

Outdoors, hiking is a popular activity - walks along the banks of the Danube or on one of the many nearby mountains such as Brotjacklriegel or Rachel are particularly beautiful. In winter, skiers are drawn to the slopes around Sankt Englmar.

Overall, Rattenberg is definitely worth a trip - whether you are looking for cultural highlights, culinary delights or outdoor adventures. Visit this charming little town and experience the beauty of Straubing-Bogen!
