Discover the region
A special gem is the Heinz Sielmann pond in Billafingen, a lush biotope with rare flora and fauna. The nature trail connects to the pond and provides information about the local flora. There is also a pear variety garden nearby, in which over 300 pear varieties are cultivated and preserved.
A hike to the Aachtobel nature reserve with the Maria im Stein pilgrimage chapel will immerse you in a mysterious world. From here, a rewarding hiking route leads to the Hohenbodman tower, which is the remains of a former castle and is now used as a viewing tower. If you are not afraid of the ascent, you will be rewarded with a fascinating view of the Linzgau landscape and Lake Constance as far as the Alps.
Golf enthusiasts can also enjoy wonderful views at the Lugenhof golf course. With its wonderful panoramic view of Lake Constance, it is one of the most beautiful facilities far and wide.
Worth seeing
Also worth seeing is the place itself with its numerous listed half-timbered houses and impressive churches: the late Gothic parish church of St. Peter and Paul with a rosary altar by the famous sculptor Martin Zürn, the baroque St. Nicholas chapel, the church of St. Mauritius in the award-winning sub-town of Billafingen, the small chapels St. Markus in Taisersdorf and St. Georg in Hohenbodman. Some of these sights line the Linzgauer Jakobsweg from Wald to Überlingen.
There is also a lot to do culturally. The Owinger Kulturkreis offers a varied program every year with lectures, concerts and cabaret. The Festival Owinger Musiktage has recently enriched the offer. It takes place in the new Kulturhalle kultur/o. The gallery in the old townhall is used for exebitions.
