Mechtersen

Geographically, Mechtersen is located about 10 kilometres southwest of Lüneburg and belongs to the municipality of Bardowick. The surrounding area is characterised by rolling hills, green meadows and fields as well as numerous small lakes. Especially beautiful are the walks through the nature reserve "Ilmenauniederung", which is also a paradise for bird lovers.

Touristically relevant are above all the historic half-timbered houses from the 17th century, which still characterise the village centre today. The nearby baroque garden in Niedermarschacht is also worth a visit.

Cultural highlights can be found above all in neighbouring Lüneburg: Here, there are numerous sights to discover, such as the Stintmarkt, the Old Crane or St. Michael's Church. Those who enjoy art exhibitions should definitely visit the Lüneburg Museum.

But culinary connoisseurs will also get their money's worth: In the surrounding villages you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables directly from the farm or enjoy regional specialities such as asparagus.

The best outdoor activities can be experienced here especially well in the summer months: Whether cycling along the Elbe side canal or canoeing on the Ilmenau - everyone gets their money's worth here. Horse riding and golfing are also possible in the area.

And what do you do in Mechtersen when it rains? A visit to the nearby fun pool "Salü" is a good idea - here you can relax and enjoy the day.
