Geographically, Mackenrode is located on the edge of the Thuringian Forest and thus offers a beautiful backdrop of green hills and forests. The nearest town is Heilbad Heiligenstadt, which is only 10 kilometres away.

The St. George Church, which was built in 1230 and is one of the oldest buildings in the village, is particularly worth seeing in Mackenrode. Mackenrode Castle with its beautiful park also invites you to discover it.

Culturally, the Eichsfeld has much to offer: For example, visit the Borderland Museum or take a walk through the historic town centre of Duderstadt.

For those who want to indulge in culinary delights, be sure to try the regionally famous "Eichsfelder Stracke" - a smoked raw sausage speciality made from pork.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there are numerous ways to get active: Hike along the Harzer-Hexen-Stiegs trail or explore the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal nature park by bike. In winter, the nearby skiing area of Braunlage also beckons with its slopes and cross-country trails.

Even when the weather is bad, you don't have to miss out on activities: Visit the adventure pool "Thermalsoleheilbad Heiligenstadt" or take a trip to nearby Göttingen.

A special highlight in Mackenrode is the annual castle festival, which takes place in summer and features a colourful programme of music, theatre and art.

Overall, Mackenrode is definitely worth a trip - whether as a stopover on your tour of Germany or as a destination for a relaxing short holiday. With this travel guide you have all the important information for your stay at hand!

Unsere Empfehlung: unbedingt diesen Weg wandern. Wir waren insgesamt mit Pausen 5,5 Stunden unterwegs.

Wunderschöne Tour mit herrlichen Ausblicken. Kaum Fortwegpassagen.
