Geographically, Kretz lies on the edge of the Eifel and the Hunsrück. The surrounding area is characterised by rolling hills, meadows and forests as well as numerous rivers and lakes. This landscape invites outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling or boating on the nearby Rhine.

One of the tourist attractions in Kretz is the 12th century Bürresheim Castle with its impressive architecture and history. The historic town of Mayen with its medieval town centre is also worth a visit.

Cultural highlights include the annual castle festival at Bürresheim Castle as well as various concerts at the Maria Laach Monastery, which is also nearby.

For culinary connoisseurs, there is also plenty to discover here: from regional specialities such as "Mettbrötchen" to international cuisine, you will find everything your heart desires.

If it rains, you can go to a museum, for example, or find one of the many cosy cafés to spend time in.

But it's always particularly nice outdoors - hiking through the neighbouring Eifel National Park or cycling tours along the Rhine in the summer months

    Mit unserer Pilgergruppe machten wir den Eifel-Camino in Tages- bzw. Wochenend-Etappen in drei Jahren. Mit Gebeten, Liedern, Hoffnungen und auch mit Stille pilgerten wir diesen Weg. Wir waren so begeistert, dass wir jetzt schon in Frankreich sind, bzw. einen neuen Pilgerweg in Deutschland planen. Problem ist immer das Finden von Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten für die Gruppe. Mit der DB an- und abgereist, was gut geklappt hat. Ich finde, der Eifel-Camino ist das Richtige für Pilgeranfänger und -innen, denn die Höhenmeter und Streckenlänge sind gut machbar.     Wir sind gestern von Weißenthurm in Richtung Mayen geradelt. Kurz vor dem Mayener Bahnhof wechselten wir auf die alte Bahnstrecke und fuhren über Polch, Ochtendung undd Bassenheim zurück. Der Vulkanradweg ist auch in Richtung Mayen gut zu radeln, ist gut ausgeschildert und immer eine Tour wert. Gestern jedoch waren wir überrascht über die Sperrung der Radstrecke in Richtung Reginaris-Brunnen. An der Kreuzung vor Fraukirch zeigt ein Umleitungsschild an, dass wir für unser Ziel Mayen hätten zurück nach Kruft radeln müssen. Leute, das kann nicht euer Ernst sein! Dann müssen die Schilder vorher kommen. Gibt es die Baustelle überhaupt noch? Es war weit und breit nichts zu sehen, außerdem fuhren dort auch Autos. Wir sind dann über Fraukirch und die Felder gefahren.

    Uns haben besonders einige Abschnitte gefallen wie z.B. das Enderttal, Monreal oder die Teilstücke an der Mosel. Definitiv zu empfehlen über Ostern oder im Spätsommer, wenn es nicht mehr ganz so heiß ist.

    Hallo Zusammen, habe am Wochende meine 2. Etappe des Eifelcaminos gemacht. Zur ersten Etappe Andernach > ittlich (das war ab Pfingsmontag 2014 war das Angebot an Übernachtungen spärlich, anegfangen in Kruft, dort wurde im Hirschen unter der Hand der Zimmerpreis aufgeschlagen "das ist doch ihre Schuld wenn Sie nicht aktuell im Internet die Preise nachschauen. das Frühstück kann ich nicht mehr inklusive machen", obwohl fest gebucht. Die Information, die völlig gefehlt hat war die, dass es in Wittlich nicht wirklich einen Hauptbahnhof gibt. Wir waren bei über 30 Grad dort angekommen, um am 1. Kreisverkehr zu erfahren, dass der HBF 5 km außerhalb liegt. Wir wurden dann von freundlichen Menschen dorthingefahren, es war aussichtslos das noch bei dieser Hitze zu schaffen.
