Location & special features: Kösching is located in the Bavarian district of Eichstätt, about 20 km southwest of Ingolstadt. The town is known for its picturesque old town with numerous half-timbered houses and Hirschberg Castle, which sits enthroned on a mountain above the town. Eichstätt, on the other hand, is located directly on the Altmühltal and is considered the gateway to the Altmühltal Nature Park. The town is characterised by a rich history, which can still be seen today in the many historic buildings.

Sights: In Kösching, you should definitely take a walk through the old town and visit the magnificent churches. Another highlight is Hirschberg Castle with its impressive park grounds. In Eichstätt, it is worth visiting the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral or taking a guided tour of the Residence Museum.

Cultural Highlights & Events: A cultural highlight in Kösching is the annual "Schloßfest", where music acts perform and culinary delights are offered. In Eichstätt there are regular concerts as well as theatre performances - a visit to the theatre is always worthwhile here!

Culinary specialities: There are numerous restaurants and inns in both towns that offer traditional Bavarian cuisine. Be sure to try the famous Weißwurst breakfast or enjoy a cold beer in one of the cosy beer gardens.

Outdoor activities: The best season for outdoor activities is in spring and summer. In Kösching you can enjoy wonderful hiking or cycling - along the Altmühl cycle path you can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding area. Eichstätt, on the other hand, offers opportunities for climbing, canoeing as well as bird watching.

Rain programme: If it should rain, we recommend a visit to the Jura Museum in Eichstätt or a guided tour of Hirschberg Castle in Kösching.

Conclusion: Kösching and Eichstätt are two towns with many facets - from historical sights to impressive natural landscapes, there is much to discover here. Absolutely worth a visit! We hope that this Travel Guide has been helpful for your planning and wish you a pleasant stay!
