Discover the region

Geographically, Katzwinkel is situated between the Moselle and Rhine rivers, surrounded by picturesque mountains and hills. The area is known for its volcanic activity and numerous mineral springs. Particularly impressive are the basalt formations of the "Katzwinkeler Maar", an extinct volcano with a clear lake in the middle of a green landscape.

The tourist attractions of this region include not only natural phenomena such as the "Katzwinkeler Maar" or the Dreimühlen waterfall, but also cultural highlights such as the 12th century Bürresheim Castle. For culture enthusiasts, there are regular events such as concerts at Bürresheim Castle or historical festivals at castles and palaces. This region also has a lot to offer in terms of cuisine - be sure to try local specialities such as Eifeler Döppekuchen (a potato dish) or Milchreiskuchen mit roter Grütze (rice pudding with red fruit jelly).

Those who like to be active will also find what they are looking for here: Hike through the idyllic landscape of the Eifelsteig trail or cycle along the Maare-Mosel cycle path. In winter, cross-country skiers can let off steam on cross-country trails or enjoy downhill skiing on the Erbeskopf.

Even when it's raining, there's plenty to discover in Katzwinkel - visit the volcano museum, for example, or relax in one of the numerous wellness hotels.

Where is the most beautiful? That depends entirely on your personal preferences. The landscape around the "Katzwinkeler Maar" offers a breathtaking backdrop, while the medieval Eltz Castle is a highlight for those interested in history.

Summarised: Katzwinkel in the Vulkaneifel district is definitely worth a visit. Whether natural phenomena, cultural highlights or sporting activities - everyone gets their money's worth here. Enjoy local specialities and let yourself be enchanted by this idyllic region!
