Kanzem is located in the heart of Trier-Saarburg and is known for its picturesque vineyards along the Moselle. The region is characterised by its diverse landscape: From gentle hills to steep cliffs, it offers everything your heart desires.

The town itself has a long history, which can still be felt today in the historic buildings such as Thorn Castle or the parish church of St. Martin. Another highlight are the numerous wineries around Kanzem - here you can taste local wines and learn more about their production.

For art lovers, a trip to nearby Trier with its Roman ruins or to Saarbrücken with its modern art centre is worthwhile. Hiking enthusiasts will also get their money's worth: the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig trail leads directly through Kanzem and offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.

If it should rain, we recommend a visit to the Museum am Dom in Trier or the Völklingen ironworks - both offer exciting insights into regional history.

From a culinary point of view, you should definitely try the "Saumagen" - a hearty speciality made of pork and potatoes that is particularly popular in the region around Kanzem.

The best seasons for outdoor activities are spring and autumn - at this time you can enjoy the mild climate and at the same time observe the changing colours of the landscape. It is especially beautiful in autumn, when the vineyards turn into a golden sea of leaves.

In summary, Kanzem, Trier-Saarburg is definitely worth a visit! Whether you want to discover cultural highlights or simply enjoy nature - there is something for everyone here. We hope that our travel tips will help you and wish you an unforgettable stay in Kanzem!

Did this tour in April on a nice sunny day. For navigation I only used my phone with the map on this page, no GPS. This works fine but you have to stop 500 times in total of course. There is nothing technically difficult in the route, but yes there is some serious climbing. I rode it on a hardtail with eagle 1*12 (34/10-50). The route takes appr. 5,5 hours I would say for a fit person, breaks not included. I think its best to ride the tour when its dry, since otherwise it may be challenging and you might get quite a few flats of all the sharp little stones that come up when its wet. In total you maybe have to walk 50 meters at some stairs, apart from that everything is rideable. Limited refuel stations available, I did it with one bidon and that was not quite enough, defenitely in summer you need to refill when possible. Great route and I would recommend it to anyone who is fit but does not look for spectacular descends and other technical stuff.
