Discover the region

Geography & special features: Hirschau is located in the Upper Palatinate at the foothills of the Fichtelgebirge. The town is surrounded by picturesque forests and rolling hills. The town is known for its idyllic landscape with numerous lakes and rivers such as the "Ehenbach", which flows through the town area. Another special feature are the many historic buildings from different eras, which blend harmoniously into the townscape.

Touristically relevant sights: There are many interesting places to visit in Hirschau: Theuern Castle now houses a museum on the history of the region; the Church of St. Vitus impresses with its baroque architecture; the Mining Museum provides information on the long tradition of mining in the area; or you can take a walk along Lake Eixendorf - a beautiful natural landscape to relax in.

Cultural Highlights & Events: There are also some cultural highlights to experience: In summer, the popular music festival "Bergfest" takes place every year, where local bands perform; meanwhile, you can also visit the traditional folk festival; in winter, there is the romantic Christmas market in the old town, where you can enjoy local specialities and handicrafts.

Culinary specialities: Hirschau is known for its regional cuisine. Be sure to try the "Bratwürste" - a typical Franconian speciality made from pork or lamb. The sweet variant called "Leberknödel" should also be on your list! You can drink a cool beer from one of the local breweries with it.

Outdoor activities: The surroundings of Hirschau offer many opportunities for outdoor activities: Hiking, cycling or swimming at one of the lakes are just a few examples. In winter you can go cross-country skiing or ice skating at Lake Eixendorf. The best season for this is between May and October.

Nette kleine Wanderung.
