As one of the oldest cities in North Rhine-Westphalia, Herford has a rich history to offer. The city is located in the north-east of the federal state and is surrounded by the rivers Werre and Aa. With its location on the edge of the Teutoburg Forest, the city also offers many opportunities for outdoor activities.

Touristically relevant sights include the Minster of St. John Baptist, which is considered one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture, and the Marta Herford Museum, which exhibits modern art.

Cultural highlights in Herford include the summer theatre at Hof Hagedorn or the Jazz Days in November. Culinary specialities such as the famous Westphalian cuisine can also be enjoyed here.

For active holidaymakers, there are numerous opportunities for hiking or cycling along the Weser cycle path or through the Teutoburg Forest. In winter, you can even go skiing in the nearby ski resort of Willingen.

Even if the weather is bad, you don't have to be bored: The H2O leisure pool provides cooling on hot days and indoor fun in rainy weather.

It is especially nice in Herford during the Christmas season, when the historic market square is aglow with lights and a traditional Christmas market takes place.

All in all, Herford is definitely worth a visit - whether for its history, its cultural offerings or its charm as a typical Westphalian town. A travel guide for Herford should definitely be in every travel guide collection!

Daher sollte man ggf.
