Discover the region

Geography and special features: Hatten is located about 20 kilometres west of Bremen in Lower Saxony. The region is known for its picturesque landscapes with forests, lakes and rivers. The Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park offers numerous hiking and cycling trails through a unique heath landscape.

Tourist attractions: One of the main attractions of Hatten is the 17th century Gödens Castle. Today it houses a museum with a collection of historical furniture as well as changing exhibitions of contemporary works of art. The open-air museum Ammerländer Bauernhaus shows life in the countryside in the 19th century. Another highlight are the many lakes around Hatten such as the Zwischenahner Meer or the Dümmer-Meer - perfect for water sports activities such as swimming or sailing.

Cultural Highlights & Events: Music festivals are held regularly during the summer months, including the well-known "Jazz am See" festival on the Zwischenahner Meer. In autumn, the traditional harvest market takes place every year - a colourful spectacle full of regional products such as fruit, vegetables, cheese and wine.

Culinary specialities: The region is known for its traditional cuisine with many regional specialities. For example, try the "eel smoke" - smoked eel that has been produced in Hatten for centuries. Another culinary highlight are the numerous farm shops around Hatten, selling fresh fruit and vegetables as well as homemade jams and juices.

Outdoor activities: Hatten offers many opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking or cycling through picturesque landscapes. In winter you can even go ice skating or play curling on the frozen Zwischenahner Meer. If it rains, we recommend a visit to the local indoor swimming pool or a shopping tour through the charming old town of Oldenburg.

Conclusion: Hatten is definitely worth a visit! The region offers a unique combination of nature, history and culture as well as numerous activities for every taste. Whether relaxing by the lake in summer or gliding over the ice in winter - everyone gets their money's worth here.
