Discover the region
Solitude Castle with its magnificent park is particularly worth seeing. The baroque building was built in 1763 as a pleasure palace for Duke Carl Eugene and later served as the residence of various personalities such as Queen Katharina von Württemberg. Today it houses an art academy as well as a restaurant with a magnificent view of Stuttgart.
Another highlight of the city is the Old Town Hall dating from 1590. Today it houses the "Altes Rathaus" museum, which offers insights into the history of the city. Also worthwhile are walks through the winding alleys of the old town or along the small river Glems.
The annual town festival in July and the Christmas market in December provide cultural highlights. Here you can enjoy regional specialities such as Maultaschen, Spätzle and Swabian potato salad.
Those who like to be active will also get their money's worth in Gerlingen. The surrounding area is perfect for hiking or cycling - the vineyards are particularly beautiful in autumn. A trip to the nearby Schönbuch Nature Park is also recommended.
