Discover the region
The geographical location of Garz is ideal for a relaxing holiday. Surrounded by forests, lakes and rivers, there are many opportunities to explore the beauty of the landscape. The town itself lies on the banks of the Ryck River and is surrounded by rolling hills.
One of the most famous sights in Garz is Spyker Castle. It was built in the 19th century and today houses a museum with a collection of old furniture as well as paintings by famous painters such as Caspar David Friedrich.
Another highlight are the numerous churches in the region, including St. John's Church in Garz itself. It dates back to the 14th century and impresses with its Gothic architecture.
For culinary delights, a visit to the farmers' market is a good idea, where fresh fruit, vegetables and regional products are on offer. Fish lovers will also get their money's worth here: fresh fish is sold directly at the harbour or can be enjoyed in one of the many restaurants.
For those who like to be active, a hike through the nearby Jasmund National Park or a bicycle tour along the coast is a must - an unforgettable experience, especially in summer. Water sports such as sailing or canoeing are also very popular here.
If the weather doesn't cooperate, you can visit the cultural centre. Concerts and theatre performances are regularly held here, as well as exhibitions of contemporary art.
Garz is worth a visit at any time of year. In spring, the fruit trees blossom in full splendour, while autumn enchants with its golden colours. Winter, on the other hand, invites you to take leisurely walks through the snow, and in summer you can relax on the beach or enjoy the sunset with a cool drink.
There is so much to discover in Garz - from historic buildings to breathtaking natural scenery - that it is hard to experience everything at once. A travel guide for Garz is therefore absolutely recommended!
