Geographical location & special features: Falkenstein is located in the Upper Palatinate, close to the Czech border. The town is characterised by its picturesque landscape with forests, mountains and rivers. One of the most famous mountains is the Hohe Bogen, from whose summit you can enjoy a breathtaking view.

Touristically relevant sights: Falkenstein Castle is the town's landmark and a must-see for every visitor. It was built in the 12th century and today houses a museum and a youth hostel. The parish church of St. Johannes Baptist or Neunburg vorm Wald Castle are also worth a visit.

Cultural Highlights & Events: The annual castle festival at Falkenstein Castle is one of the largest public festivals in Bavaria and attracts thousands of guests every year. The cultural programme in summer with concerts, theatre performances or the traditional Fischerstechen are also real highlights.

Culinary specialities: Hearty specialities such as knuckle of pork or dumplings are served in the rustic dining rooms - typically Bavarian! But you can also easily find vegetarian dishes or international cuisine here.

Outdoor activities: There are numerous opportunities for outdoor activities in the surroundings of Falkenstein. In summer, hiking through the Bavarian Forest or cycling tours along the Regen River are ideal. In winter, ski resorts such as the Hohen Bogen Winter Sports Centre beckon.

So Falkenstein, Cham is definitely worth a trip! Whether in sunshine or rain - the town and its surroundings have something to offer in every season. It is especially beautiful here in autumn, when the leaves turn colourful and a walk through the forest becomes a real relaxation. We hope that this Travel Guide will help you make your stay in Falkenstein unforgettable!

This gravel tour was a great adventure for us. We started the tour in Passau following the Donau to Regensburg. This gave us two days to to get us a little into it. It broke the part of the Donau into two, we ended the tour in 8 days in Passau. Instead of following the GPX we sometimes followed the indications of the official cycling tours to stay away from busy traffic.
