Düsseldorf in Green

The Hofgarten is the green heart of the city, covering nearly 28 hectares. The pond with a water fountain adds a feel-good atmosphere. Due to its location – near the shopping street Königsallee – you can relax here after a long day of shopping. There are large lawn areas where you can lie down and trees that provide shade.

The Nordpark, with its water features and flower displays, is one of the most beautiful parks in Düsseldorf. In the northwest of the park, you'll find the Japanese Garden on the Rhine, whose groundbreaking ceremony took place in 1974. The sensory atmosphere is created by the Japanese maple trees, cloud-shaped Japanese black pines, pond facilities, and the pleasant silence. The garden is also decorated with stone lanterns made from natural stone, which create an East Asian atmosphere. Each design element of the garden has a deeper symbolic meaning, making the garden an idyll.

But the South Park also impresses with its diversity, which it offers to visitors. With 70 ha, it is the largest park in Düsseldorf. In South Park, you will find a petting zoo, several playgrounds, restaurants, and beautiful nature. The garden is divided into three parts:

  • Volksgarten: The Volksgarten was created in 1895/96 and was back then the only option for relaxation. Today, the garden with its pond, green meadows, and beautiful avenues is a romantic and harmonious place.
  • In front of the dike: This part of South Park originated from an old industrial area, of which nothing can be seen today. The ponds with water lilies, the bloom splendor, and the adjacent flower meadow make the area a natural oasis. The flood dike offers a great viewpoint.
  • In the gardens: A special feature here is above all the 600 m long water axis. In this part of the park, you can discover 16 different themed gardens; among others, you will find a dahlia, fragrance, and rose garden.

Another green excursion destination is the wildlife park in the Grafenberger Forest. The park is open daily and free of charge. In the wildlife park, you can discover fallow deer and roe deer, but also wild boars, pheasants, and partridges. In the predator enclosure, you will see foxes, wildcats, raccoons, and polecats. On the forest educational trail, you can learn a lot about the local fauna and flora.

Düsseldorf harbor

At the harbor, buildings by renowned architects extend, housing numerous companies in the media industry. In the harbor area, new and old elements merge: the old quay walls and staircases contrast with modern architecture. This gives the harbor area its unique charm. Guided tours are offered so that you can dive deeper into the development of the harbor, which captivates with its architecture.

At the entrance to the Medienhafen is the Rheinturm, a landmark of the city of Düsseldorf. The tower rises 240.5 m high. From the observation platform, you can enjoy a unique view over Düsseldorf. On clear days, you can even see as far as Cologne.

You can also explore the city on a panoramic cruise from the water. Along the way, you catch views of the Medienhafen as well as the old town and learn about the history and development of the city.
