Dümmer

Dümmer is located on the northern shore of the lake of the same name in Lower Saxony. The lake is one of the largest natural lakes in northern Germany with an area of 13 km². The landscape around the lake is characterised by meadows, fields and forests - ideal for hiking or cycling along the numerous routes.

One of the tourist attractions is the "Dümmerniederung" nature reserve, an important resting place for migratory birds on their journey south. Here, birdwatchers can observe a variety of rare species such as cranes or whooper swans.

Cultural highlights include the Lembruch Heimathaus, which provides insights into the life of people in the former Dümmer, and the 18th century Hünnefeld Castle with its baroque garden.

The popular kite festival also takes place every year: A colourful spectacle where thousands of kites cavort in the sky above the lake.

For gourmets, Dümmer offers mainly regional products such as asparagus or fish dishes from the nearby Steinhuder Meer. Beer lovers also get their money's worth, as Dümmer is known for its small brewery "Dümmer Bräu".

The best outdoor activities are hiking and cycling in summer and ice skating or skating in winter. Water sports such as sailing or canoeing can also be practised at the lake.
