Bockenem

Geographically, Bockenem lies on the edge of the Harz Mountains and is surrounded by rolling hills. The proximity to the Harz National Park makes the town an ideal starting point for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling or skiing.

The sights of the town are many and varied. Visit Derneburg Castle with its impressive architecture or admire the historic town centre with its 16th century half-timbered houses. Another highlight is Böckelheim Castle, a medieval fortress on a hill above the town.

Culturally, Bockenem also has a lot to offer: visit the "Hausmannsturm" museum and learn more about the history of the town or experience a performance at the "Alte Mühle" cultural centre.

If it rains, you can retreat to one of the cosy cafés and enjoy local specialities - be sure to try the famous honey cake! Alternatively, spend a day at the indoor swimming pool or catch a movie at the local cinema.

In summer, it is especially recommended to take part in a guided hike through the national park or go canoeing on the nearby river Innerste. In winter, the nearby ski area beckons with its slopes and cross-country trails.
