Discover the region
Beverstedt is located in the district of Cuxhaven in the Elbe-Weser Triangle, southeast of Bremerhaven. The current unified municipality of Beverstedt was formed in 2011 from the former joint municipality and includes, in addition to the eponymous main town, numerous other settlements. Unlike the well-known coastal towns of the Cuxland region, Beverstedt is not known for its beaches and the Wadden Sea, but rather for its rural inland landscape between the Weser and Elbe rivers. Fields, forests, moorlands, and the floodplains of small rivers characterize the surrounding area. The municipal area includes, among others, Bokel, Frelsdorf, Heerstedt, Hollen, Lunestedt, Stubben, and Wellen.
Sights and Culture
Among the striking buildings in the main town is the Evangelical Lutheran Fabian and Sebastian Church. Historic churches and other architectural landmarks can also be found outside the town center, making it well worth exploring the individual villages. An unusual technical monument stands in Lunestedt: there, a historic windmill serves as a reminder of the former importance of wind power for rural industry. The municipality’s cultural life is further shaped by local clubs and organizations.
Actively Exploring Nature
For travelers who prefer to explore the countryside actively rather than from a car, cycling is an excellent option. The largely flat Elbe-Weser Triangle is ideal for longer tours through the villages and the open cultural landscape. The Cuxhaven district also features a network of signposted bike routes and several regional connections.
Walking and hiking are also great ways to get to know the peaceful countryside around Beverstedt. Woodlands, farmland, and the lowlands of the Lune River provide plenty of variety. Those looking to embark on longer cycling or hiking excursions will find additional destinations in the wider Cuxland region, including the countryside around Bad Bederkesa and Lake Bederkesa.
