Discover the region

Berndorf is picturesquely situated between the hills of the Eifel and offers a breathtaking landscape with numerous hiking and cycling trails. The region is known for its geological features such as volcanic cones, maars and basalt rocks.

One of the most important sights in Berndorf is the nature reserve "Immerather Maar". Here you can take a walk around the idyllic maar or sit down on one of the many benches and simply enjoy nature.     zwaarte viel reuze mee. een paar keer was het steil klimmen en dalen, soms ook glad (vooral na de waterval) maar de zwaarte zit hem vooral in de afstand. gewoon rustig aan doen en vaak even een pauze.

    Diese Etappe hat viel Sehenswertes zu bieten und ist landschaftlich wunderschön. Es gibt schöne und lange Wiesenwegpassagen, die ich sehr genossen habe. Allerdings bin ich froh, dass ich noch gemäßigte Temperaturen hatte. Der erste Waldabschnitt über breite Forstwege allerdings war lang und öde.     Sehr schöner und abwechslungsreicher Wanderweg. Highlights sind die Burg Kerpen und natürlich der Vulkan Arensberg, aber auch rund um den Weinberg hat man eine tolle Aussicht auf die Landschaft der Vulkaneifel.

    Das Burgdorf Kerpen, ein uraltes Riff, das heute den Namen Weinberg trägt, die alte Wehrkirche von Berndorf, die leider verschlossen war, und der Weg ins Innere des Vulkans Arensberg – auf dieser Wanderung rund um Kerpen in der Eifel gab es wahrlich einiges zu sehen. Entgegen des Tourenvorschlags haben wir gleich zu Beginn den Berg oberhalb der Burg Kerpen erklommen, um dort dem Grab des bekannten Eifelmalers Fritz von Wille einen Besuch abzustatten. Dieses Mal stand weniger die Beschaffenheit des Wanderwegs, der meist über angenehm zu laufende Feld-, Wald- und Wiesenwege, weniger über Pfade führt. Dafür gibt es entlang des Weges einiges zu sehen. Unserer Gruppe hat dieser Wanderweg richtig Spaß gemacht! Am Ende hatten wir rund 18 Kilometer auf der Uhr (GPS-Gerät).

    Eine sehr lange, aber auch sehr schöne Eifelsteig-Etappe. Mit dem Auto sind das schlappe 7 Kilometer, auf dem Eifelsteig waren es fast 30 Kilometer. Und das ist auch ein großer Kritikpunkt: Ich finde die Etappe viel zu lang. Man hat kaum Möglichkeiten, die ganzen Höhepunkte am Wegesrand zu würdigen, weil man sich speziell im Herbst sputen muss, vor Einbruch der Dunkelheit ans Ziel zu kommen. Absoluter Höhepunkt ist dabei sicher der Wasserfall Dreimühlen. Kulinarisch hat uns die Nohner Mühle sehr gut gefallen :-)

    Da wir unsere Unterkunft in Hillesheim hatten, ließen wir uns von unserem Pensionswirt nach Mirbach fahren. Die Erlöserkirche sollte man sich schon allein wegen der Bestuhlung ansehen. Die Wege waren, so fanden wir, gut begehbar und mit den GPS Daten von der Eifelsteig Homepage gut zu folgen. Ob es an den GPS Daten lag weiß ich nicht, aber wir hatten bis auf in den Dörfern, kaum asphaltierte Wege. Enttäuscht waren wir eher vom immer wieder lobend erwähnten Dreimühlen-Wasserfall, der etwas „mickrig“ daher kam. Vielleicht lag es aber an der Jahreszeit, das er kaum Wasser führte und eher einer Saline glich als einem Wasserfall. Wir benötigten für die 26 km 6,5 Stunden wobei wir es zwar nicht eilig hatten, aber auch nur eine 30 Minuten Pause einlegten.
