Discover the region

A charming little town in the Lippe region, Barntrup is truly a jewel among German destinations. The town is located in the north-east of North Rhine-Westphalia and borders directly on Lower Saxony. With its historic buildings, picturesque landscapes and abundance of tourist activities, it is undoubtedly worth a visit.

Geographical Location & Special Features:

Barntrup has an excellent geographical location: it is situated on the edge of the Teutoburg Forest and thus offers the opportunity for numerous outdoor activities such as hiking or cycling. The Weserbergland region as well as the Eggegebirge nature park are also not far away.

Tourist attractions:

The town itself also has a lot to offer: The market square with the 17th-century town hall invites you to stroll around, while the 13th-century Protestant church impresses with its architectural history. Schwöbber Castle, which is now used as a hotel, is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Germany.

Cultural Highlights & Events:

In addition to these historic buildings, there are also many cultural events in Barntrup: from concerts to theatre performances to exhibitions, there is always something to experience here.

Culinary Specialities:

Those who like to try regional specialities should definitely make a detour to the surrounding villages: Here you will find numerous restaurants offering local dishes. Particularly recommended are the "Lippische Pickert" or the "Barntrup Beer".

Outdoor Activities:

For outdoor enthusiasts, Barntrup is a real paradise: Whether hiking on the Hermannsweg, cycling along the Weser cycle path or canoeing on the Emmer - there is something for everyone here.

The best time of year for these activities is in spring and summer, when nature is in full bloom and temperatures are pleasantly warm.

If it rains:

No one need be bored even in bad weather: The Museum Schloss Wendlinghausen offers an exciting exhibition on the history and culture of the Lippe region. A visit to the LIPPE-BAD thermal baths can also be worthwhile.

Where is it most beautiful?

A trip through the Teutoburg Forest to the Silbermühle in Löwensen is particularly recommended. The landscape here captivates with picturesque valleys and hills as well as an idyllic atmosphere.

Total:

Overall, Barntrup is a destination with a lot of charm, history and leisure opportunities. Anyone who wants to spend a quiet holiday away from mass tourism should definitely visit this little town!

Bestandteil unsere Urlaubswoche beim Deutschen Wandertag 2018 in Detmold.
