Bad Gandersheim is known for its location on the edge of the Harz Mountains. The town offers an idyllic setting with green hills and forests as well as a historic town centre. One of the main attractions is the Brunshausen Monastery, which dates back to the 9th century and now houses a museum.

Northeim, on the other hand, lies directly on the River Leine and has a long history as an important trading centre. Visitors can admire numerous half-timbered houses here or visit the cathedral.

In both towns there are many tourist attractions such as the ruins of Northeim Castle or the graduation house in Bad Gandersheim - a salt works that has been used for several centuries to cure respiratory diseases.

Cultural highlights can also be found: Bad Gandersheim hosts one of the oldest open-air theatre festivals in Germany every year - the Gandersheim Cathedral Festival attracts thousands of visitors every year. Northeim also has a lot to offer culturally: Regularly changing exhibitions are shown at the Kunstverein.

If you like to try culinary delicacies, you should definitely make a detour to Café Münchhausen - here you will not only find delicious coffee but also homemade cakes and tarts. In Northeim, the restaurant "Zum Ratskeller" is a real insider tip - here you can enjoy regional dishes in a cosy atmosphere.

For outdoor activities, the region around Bad Gandersheim and Northeim offers many possibilities: In summer you can go hiking or cycling, in winter the Harz mountains offer skiing and snowboarding. Hikes through the forest botanical garden in Bad Grund or along the Leine-Heide cycle path are particularly beautiful.

Even if it should rain, you don't have to miss out on activities: The Museum of City History in Northeim or the Salzkristall adventure pool in Bad Gandersheim offer exciting entertainment in any weather.

Overall, both Bad Gandersheim and Northeim are definitely worth a trip. Everyone will find something to their taste here - be it cultural highlights, culinary discoveries or active leisure options. As a travel guide, we recommend a stay of at least two days to experience everything!
