Geographical location and special features: Augustusburg is located about 20 kilometres southwest of Chemnitz amidst a picturesque landscape of forests, hills and rivers. One of the town's most famous landmarks is Augustusburg Castle of the same name, which towers over the town on a hill and is an impressive baroque building.

Tourist attractions: In addition to the castle, there are many other attractions in Augustusburg. These include, for example, the motorbike museum with its extensive collection of historic two-wheelers as well as the town church of St. Petri, which is well worth seeing.

Cultural highlights and events: Concerts are held regularly on the Schlossplatz in summer, while traditional Christmas markets can be visited in winter. It is also worth taking a trip to the nearby open-air theatre Greifensteine, where open-air theatre performances take place every year.

Culinary specialities: The region around Augustusburg is especially known for its hearty specialities such as Thuringian dumplings or Sauerbraten. You can enjoy these dishes in numerous restaurants - a culinary highlight for every visitor.

Outdoor activities: Those who like to be out and about in nature will feel at home in Augustusburg and the surrounding area. In summer, hikes through the nearby Ore Mountains Nature Park are a great option, while in winter numerous ski resorts can be visited.

In case of bad weather: Even in rainy weather, there is plenty to discover in Augustusburg. The motorbike museum or the castle museum are ideal excursion destinations for a rainy day.

Where is it most beautiful? A walk through the historic old town of Augustusburg and a ride on the suspension railway to the castle are particularly recommended - here you can enjoy a dreamlike view of the town and its surroundings. In summary, Augustusburg in the district of Central Saxony has a lot to offer as a travel destination. With its sights, cultural highlights and outdoor activities, it is definitely worth a trip!

It's a very scenic, educational and diversified route that is easy to access with public transport. The route is marked well, we had no troubles navigating. I would recommend good shoes, some experience and stamina due to rocky paths, some of them steep and narrow, at ledges. Avoid it if there is snow or it's wet, it would be easy to slide off the path.
