Geographically, Altenbeuthen lies in the middle of the idyllic Thuringian countryside. The region is known for its rolling hills, dense forests and picturesque river valleys. Hikes along the Rennsteig trail or cycling tours through the Schwarzatal valley are particularly popular.

Touristically relevant are above all the numerous sights in the region. An absolute highlight is Heidecksburg Castle in Rudolstadt - an impressive baroque complex with magnificent gardens and museums. The Erfurtshausen Museum of Natural History and the Lauscha Museum of Glass Art also offer exciting insights into the history and culture of the region.

Cultural highlights also abound: from the annual film and music festivals to traditional folk festivals such as the Saalfeld City Festival or the Christmas market at Schwarzburg Castle, there is always something going on here!

Altenbeuthen also has a lot to offer in terms of cuisine: Whether hearty Thuringian dumplings with roulades or fine specialities from the surrounding vineyards - gourmets will get their money's worth here.

For outdoor activities, the summer months from May to September are particularly suitable, when you can go fishing on the banks of the river Schwarza, for example, or experience the beautiful nature on a canoe tour. In winter, the surrounding ski areas and cross-country skiing trails are enticing.

Even in rainy weather, there is plenty to do in Altenbeuthen: How about a visit to the Saalemaxx fun pool or a tour of the Lehesten slate mine?

And where is the most beautiful? That's hard to say - every place has its own charm! But the picturesque villages along the Schwarza and the vantage points on the mountain ranges around Rudolstadt are certainly particularly recommendable.

All in all, Altenbeuthen, Saalfeld-Rudolstadt is definitely worth a trip - whether as a short trip or an extended holiday. We hope this travel guide could help you make your plans for your stay!
