Discover the region

Absberg is located on the Altmühlsee, an idyllic lake with crystal clear water and surrounded by picturesque forests. The place is known for its beautiful landscape and offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling or water sports like sailing or surfing. The best season for these activities is summer.

One of the most important sights in Absberg is Ratibor Castle. The castle was built in the 19th century and served as the residence of the Count of Ratibor until the end of the Second World War. Today it houses a museum with a collection of historical works of art from the Middle Ages to modern times.

Another highlight are the numerous festivals and events in Absberg during the summer. These include the Altmühltal Music Festival, the fishing festival on Lake Altmühl and various wine festivals.

If it rains you can also head to the indoor swimming pool or spend the day wine tasting - after all, Franconia is famous for its wine growing! Be sure to try the Franconian Silvaner or Riesling!

The town of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen itself also has a lot to offer: Here you can stroll through the old town and admire the historic buildings or visit the Roman fort. It is particularly beautiful here in autumn, when the leaves on the trees in the surrounding forests turn colourful.

Overall, Absberg, Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen is a destination for nature lovers and culture enthusiasts alike - definitely worth a trip!
