An iconic climb through amazing scenery along an historic route. After the initial sets of sweeping hairpins outside Pre Saint Didier the going is easy with gentle gradients. After La Thuile the hairpins and gradients increase though there are easier sections in which to recover. It gets steep again before the summit so a last push is needed. It is well worth the effort for the amazing views of the Mont Blanc Massif and views down the valley into France. The decent back down is sweeping and not particularly technical though care is needed on some sharp hairpins. A must do climb for any passionate cyclist.
