Excellent winter ridge hike in the Low Tatras. We started a bit late, around 10.30 from Trangoska. Chata Stefanika is easily reachable without any specific equipment, although crampons are an advantage for the last 300 meters.
From here we head north directly to the peak of Dumbier. This is somewhat different and luckily a bit shorter than during summer months, when first Krupova Hola has to be reached.
From Dumbier the views are purely magnificent, and it's hard to tell how it feels. Silent compared to Chopok. Wild. Windy. Cold. But majestic with the double cross. Bring a beer or champagne.
Then we proceed on the ridge towards Chopok, which is a massive 1.5 hours walk if snow conditions are great. Here you will definitely need the crampons - or the snowshoes once snow has fallen freshly. The last cabin towards the valley goes at 16.00 but tickets could be bought only until 15.45. So hurry up. We made it by 15.58.
Now from Krupova back to Trangoska is a real pain but also a post hike relaxation walk.
