Roadbook
We start the hike at the Seetal car park by the Wieserhütte, located at 1,886 m altitude. You reach it via the impressive Goldeck panoramic road, which is toll-free to drive on in winter and is cleared of snow. Until 2010, there was still a chairlift from Seetal up to the summit; at that time it was the last and oldest curve chairlift still existing in Austria. It too suffered the fate of many aging ascent aids and was dismantled. But this did not reduce the flow of visitors to Seetal – on the contrary. More and more ski tourers, sledders, snowshoe hikers, and winter hikers made this wonderful place their winter starting point, which also justified the operation of the Wieserhütte, whose new building was opened in winter 2017/18. Nestled between the Goldeck, Martennock, and Staff summits, the Innerwinkler family from Zlan offers traditional home cooking from their own farm during winter from mid-December to early April; rooms are also available.
The ski groomer-prepared path winds up about 220 meters in altitude; in particularly good conditions, a detour to the Martennock can also be made, though the path there is not groomed. At the Panoramaalm you enjoy – as the name implies – the wonderful view of the Julian Alps up to the Hohe Tauern.
The return journey is along the same route.
