Before reaching the destination of the hike, you walk through various untouched landscapes with breathtaking views. Particularly interesting: along the hiking trail you will see the Barral House and the Old Spittel. The Barral House is an impressive and fascinating H-shaped building that was originally built for seminars and then used by the Swiss Army. The Old Spittel is the former hospice, built in 1650 by Kaspar Stockalper.
At this point you have the option to leave the path at the nearby Hospiz-Niederalp bus stop or walk back the same way until you reach the Simplon Pass again. It is advisable to return to the starting point by bus.
The winter walking trail is not groomed every day. Following snowfall, it may take a few days for the trail to be groomed again. Before setting off, please check the date of the last grooming and the weather and snow conditions since then.
