From the Sarntal Öttenbach to the Windspitze near Merano 2000
From the Obermarcherhof in Öttenbach in the Sarntal valley, a fairly "low-traffic" toboggan run leads up to the new Öttenbacher Alm at almost 2,000 metres in winter, which is therefore easily accessible with snowshoes. Immediately behind the alpine hut, the signpost 10 A points off to the right to the Mittager Alm. From there on, there are no more markings because of the snow, but various tracks usually lead up to the ridge. Based on the snow conditions, the steepness and the avalanche report, you have to weigh up which track to choose (or track yourself). Once you reach the top of the wide ridge, follow it in a westerly direction (left) and you will soon see the Mittager Hütte. If the snow and avalanche situation is good - as in the described ascent - you can branch off to the right before the last ascent to the hut and head directly for the ridge through the hollow, on which you climb the last few minutes to the summit cross of the Windspitze.
