At 10:20 by bus from Lienz to Iselsberg. Start the tour at the Dolomitenblick stop at 10:50. In about 10 minutes, cross the street to the town center of Stronach. At the intersection, keep left towards the Ederhof rehabilitation center or the culture cafe, which can be reached in another 5 minutes. Shortly after the cafe, the asphalt road turns into a forest road at a barrier. Follow this for 3 hairpin bends and some elevation meters. There are some "Stronachkogel" trail signs on the way. At an altitude of 1300m, a sign points right from the forest road to cut straight up. Fortunately, it was tracked today, so that went well! It steadily goes uphill, past some alpine huts and pasture gates—the path follows the summer markers and is clearly visible! The high-voltage line can also serve as an orientation aid up to here. Magnificent panoramic view over the Lienz Dolomites to the Zettersfeld already in the lower part. The upper part from the Stronachalm is a bit steeper, alternating between forest and open areas. The actual summit remains hidden until the end—the joy is even greater once on top with the even more extensive views, now also into the Schober group, which was previously concealed. A beautiful cross invites you to take a short break and enjoy, though the cold temperatures are less inviting. After exactly 2 hours of walking, the summit was reached at 12:50. Descend the same way, but significantly faster since stepping down in the snow is much easier. After 30 minutes, back at the forest road where the trail junction was, after a total of 1 hour and 20 minutes back at the bus station. An excellent, scenic, and uncrowded tour that is also worthwhile with skis if there is sufficient snow or uncertain avalanche conditions! Only the descent along the sometimes narrow forest trails/forest roads is less rewarding. However, the forest road would be ideal for sledding!
