The route to the Stone Table as the highest tour point impresses with its sunny orientation, beautiful panoramas, and consistently prepared and cleared paths.
The winter hike to the Stone Table is a moderate hike, featuring occasional beautiful mountain pastures, limitless views of the Villach Basin, the Karawanks, Julian Alps, and the Dobratsch Nature Park. At the Kammerhütte, a stopover is worthwhile for excellent regional cuisine.

Starting from the Kanzelbahn - mountain station , you go around the restaurant Sunn Alm counterclockwise, passing the public WC and the sledge hill. After the short ascent of the sledge hill, you reach the retention basin. Here, in winter, you also find the first signpost towards Steinwenderhütte (path no. 31). Follow this path and after the retention basin, you reach a small parking area and shortly after, the road to the Waldtratte car park.
Following the road uphill, you go through a tunnel (caution!) and arrive at the parking lot. Here is the signpost to Kammerhütte (path no. 41). Follow the continuously signposted road to the Kammerhütte. Just below the Kammerhütte, turn onto the path to Schlossbaueralm (path no. 1762).
After a few minutes of walking, the forest clears, revealing views of the Buchacheralm and the Villach Basin. After leaving the Alm, you re-enter the winter forest and pass the unmanned Gerlitzen hut of the ÖAV before reaching the Schlossbaueralm, again with incredible views of the Karawanks, the Julian Alps, and the Dobratsch Nature Park.
Shortly after the Schlossbaueralm, follow the signposting for the last section to the Stone Table, the turning point. The descent follows the ascent path.
If you don’t dare the unprepared alternative and are equipped with snowshoes, you can still make the ascent to Stifterboden (path no. 1771) and descend directly to Kammerhütte there.
