The Celts called the mighty river, which flows from the Arlberg to the Danube, "Licca" and thus meant the "fast-flowing". The Tyrolean Lech valley is now considered one of the last large wild river landscapes in Europe. Many rare plants and animals can be discovered here: For example, the upper Lech is Austria's most important breeding area for alpine, river-dwelling birds. Riverbank pipers, goosanders, and white-throated dippers occur nowhere else in such density. On this long route – which can also be done in stages – we have many opportunities for nature observations.

Roadbook
We start our long route at the Lech in Höfen – however, the entry point is flexible. The route can be started at several locations and can also be done in stages. Public buses make the return journey easier. The hike runs quietly and sunny along the mighty river. Again and again, there are beautiful views of Reutte and the surrounding mountains. On cleared white paths, after a slight ascent, we first reach a rock wall and then the picturesque village of Rieden. We cross the river and stroll on cleared paths through Weißenbach. Along the Lechtalstraße, groomed paths lead us back north.
