The Kronberg is a great hiking destination in every season, including winter. There are several reasons for this: First, the view from the summit is simply breathtaking and offers a panoramic view of Säntis, Alpstein, Appenzellerland, and the Lake Constance region. Second, in winter you can rent a sled at the summit and slide down. Third, the mountain guesthouse offers many delicious dishes – the well-deserved reward after the strenuous ascent.
The route starts in Jakobsbad at the valley station of the aerial cableway and then goes left towards Kronberg. The entire path is well signposted. Already after a few meters, the ascent begins, first leading through a small forest. Later, open and wooded areas alternate. You repeatedly share the path with sledders, so you should stay alert. Additionally, the forest can be slippery in some places, making the uphill hike safer than downhill.
