Directly above Wallgau rises the Krepelschrofen, an alpine hill that is not particularly remarkable but scenic and striking, well worth a visit any time of year: the view over the upper Isar Valley is simply fantastic! Even in otherwise wintry conditions, an ascent is usually possible because the steep hill’s southern exposure helps the sun keep the terrain as snow-free as possible.
The routes used in this tour proposal have a special feature. For several years, information boards about the sporting career of Magdalena Neuner, probably the best-known native of Wallgau, have been installed there. It is therefore no surprise that the long-standing Wallgau panorama path has been renamed Magdalena-Neuner-Panoramaweg. Even those who have not previously been interested in biathlon can follow the short but impressive career of the once world’s best biathlete here.

Safety information
The paths and trails to Krepelschrofen are generally well maintained and in good condition.
The panorama path appears to be regularly cleared in winter, and the trail to Krepelschrofen, which lies in the sun, is often used and mostly tracked. Only the immediate summit ascent is in a shaded area and tends to have light icing even under otherwise good conditions.
In unfavorable conditions, crampons and possibly snowshoes can be helpful.
Roadbook
From the Wallgau Bichl bus stop or the adjacent parking lot, follow the path leading west from the street. This path gradually ascends, briefly turns slightly left at the edge of the development, and continues upward as a footpath in a wide right curve. It reaches the crossing panorama path; follow this to the left. The path moves gently up and down above Wallgau. Soon, a marked and signposted trail branches off to the right towards Krepelschrofen; follow this uphill. With moderate inclines, the trail continues roughly in the same walking direction until another trail joins from the left, which will be the later descent path. Now keeping right, the trail ascends in wide switchbacks, following the markers to the scenic Krepelschrofen.
After the summit break, begin the descent by first following the ascent path. At the trail junction known from the outbound route, keep right; the trail rejoins the panorama path after a switchback. Follow this again to the right and leisurely descend into the valley. At the junction with the street, turn left and follow Sonnleiten into the village. Almost there, the seldom-used residential street splits; turn right here and descend to the village square. Then follow the federal road to the right until the Alpenhof bus stop, where the route proposal ends.
