- The name 'Il Spir' means swift, a bird that sleeps while flying and feeds its young in the nest from the air.
- 10,000 years ago, many millions of cubic meters of rock collapsed into the valley. The Rhine then carved its way through this rock mass and formed an impressive gorge: the Ruinaulta.
- Ruinaulta is the name used by the Romance-speaking local population to refer to the Vorderrhein (Anterior Rhine) gorges; it means something like high-lying rubble.
