For decades, the Belchenstraße held a record for the entire German low mountain range: no other road accessible to public transport led higher up. It was opened in 1904 and until its closure at the end of 2001, it was possible to reach the Belchenhaus, 1360 m above sea level, by car. Since then, cyclists in particular have enjoyed the hairpin bends that take them up to the most beautiful panoramic mountain in the Black Forest. Those who prefer a more comfortable ride can use the gondola lift, which was first used at Expo 2000 in Hanover and has been operating in the Black Forest ever since. If there is enough snow, the four kilometers of the summit road are used as a toboggan run. This is also the route of our winter tour to the third highest mountain in the Black Forest.
