To Kultaranta by stand-up paddleboard or paddling 2/4 km, Vuokatti - Sotkamo
The quiet Kultaranta beach invites stand-up paddleboarders, paddlers, and boaters to land and enjoy a summer day on the waves and shore of Nuasjärvi.
The lake route from Katinkulta following the shores to the Kultaranta beach is a suitable length for stand-up paddleboarders, kayakers, canoeists, or even rowboats. The distance one way is about two kilometers.
The scenery along the route is dominated by two factors above all: the seven-peak chain of hills of Vuokatti and the long expanse of Nuasjärvi opening to the west. At the other end of Nuasjärvi is Kajaani.
The long east-west oriented Nuasjärvi sometimes generates waves, especially with westerly winds, which should be considered when planning the trip.
Kultaranta is the swimming beach of the Vuokatti village, maintained by the municipality of Sotkamo.

Roadbook
The route starts next to the Katinkulta beach. You can also set off from, for example, the Hotel Vuokatti beach, which adds about one kilometer to the distance following the shores.
Following the shores of Jäätiönlahti, the route rounds the tip of Hiekkaniemi, from where there is a view of the large Nuasjärvi.
The reed-covered tip of Hiekkaniemi is shallow for a long distance. Follow the edge of the reeds. The tip of Hiekkaniemi is halfway along the route in one direction, and from there you can already see the Kultaranta beach.
Follow the shore, but take into account the residential areas, so do not paddle too close to inhabited shores.
