The stage town Lychen is naturally well suited for such an enterprise. The town, surrounded by seven lakes, lies picturesquely as if on an island. The lakes offer every variety imaginable for a water hiker. Their shape, size, and water quality differ greatly. The Wurl- and Zenssee are clearwater lakes, thus having very nutrient-poor water and offering the best bathing quality. The other lakes are richer in nutrients, the water slightly murky, and the plant growth stronger. There are diverse nesting possibilities for many types of water birds. Coots, great crested grebes, mallards, and swans can be observed. Grey herons stand seemingly motionless on the shore waiting for prey. Kites circle in the air. A canoe trip offers many opportunities for nature observation here!
