Steep, physically demanding summit route. Unfortunately, too many people.
Author’s recommendation
Start early because there are many climbers on the route. There are many people at the viewing platform, so the access to the summit cross has to be shared with many others.

Follow the ski slope parking lot and then continue the path past the old Zugspitz middle station to the Wiener Neustätter hut. After the hut, about 20 minutes to the start of the via ferrata. The via ferrata is relatively easy, but watch out for loose rock. After the via ferrata, it is about 50 minutes to the mountain station of the 3 cable cars. From there is also the access to the last "mini" section to the summit.
The descent is not recommended because it is slippery and there are many people ascending. It is better to take the cable car down to the valley.

Equipment
Hiking equipment, good footwear. Experienced climbers do not need via ferrata equipment. A helmet is important because of loose rock.Localization
