The Wilder Kaiser area is not really large. We cross it in a big loop. On four of the seven days we use klettersteige. These are challenging but not really difficult. A good route to get acquainted with the concept of the 'iron path'.
From the Netherlands, you can hardly get closer to the Alps! The Kaisergebirge is the first serious mountain range when you enter Austria from Munich. In the Kaisertal near Kufstein, you see forests and charming green meadows with limestone rock peaks protruding. But the Wilder Kaiser lives up to its name: higher up it is wilder than it looks at first glance. The rocks at the Ellmauer Tor and the Scheffauer are dazzling white. You climb and descend through rough terrain.
The Wilder and Zahmer Kaiser are connected at the Stripsenjoch. The highest peak of the Wilder Kaiser is the Ellmauer Halt at an altitude of 2344 meters. A summit we can climb under good conditions. Additionally, there are about forty other peaks, many famous for mountain sports, such as Predigtstuhl, Goinger Halt, and Maukspitze. The area as a whole has been a protected nature reserve for fifty years.
