Engelberg is a via ferrata paradise: Brunnistöckli, Zittergrat, Rigidalstock, Fürenwand – and the Graustock. This via ferrata follows from the Jochpass the southeast ridge, crosses the Schafberg and finally overcomes a steep 70-meter spike – the pièce de résistance with plenty of air beneath your feet. This ascent should not be underestimated. It leads onto an impressive scree field below the summit structure and – after crossing it – finally into an exciting ridge climb that ends at the summit cross. This gray limestone desert is really worth seeing – no wonder the mountain is named so. If you are out in good weather and clear sight, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama from Titlis over Spannort, Rigi, the Central Plateau, Pilatus and the Bernese Alps to Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Finsteraarhorn and breathtaking views down into the 700-meter-high north face of the Graustock, into the Engelberg Valley and the Gental.
