Great and scenic circular route for mountaineers over the Ramsau via ferrata, from the Türlwand hut in the Styrian Dachstein area to the Scheichenspitze with its satellites. This mountain route is varied in landscape and leads us into an almost pristine mountain area.

From the parking lot at the Türlwand hut, past east and northwards into the cirque towards Hunerkogel. The Edelgrießhöhe is the starting point for the via ferrata. Over the Gamsfeld peaks and the Schmiedstock it goes exposed and airy to the Scheichenspitze. Northwards down into the scree waste of the southern Koppenkar and back to the Edelgrießhöhe, from where we return on the ascent path to the starting point.

    Tips and suggestions

Topo of the via ferrata see route: "Ramsauer via ferrata" from the Ramsau Tourist Board.

    Roadbook

Directions:   See also the detailed "time-altitude diagram in the image gallery".

ASCENT: From the valley station parking lot at 1665 m, a short climb up to 1700 m, then eastward a little down and past the Türlwand hut (1685 m). Always ascending eastwards, we pass the signpost to the Austria hut (1825 m) and reach a pole on a plateau at about 2050 m. Shortly after (2115 m) is the signpost to Hunerkogel, where however we follow the signpost to the Edelgrießhöhe. Note: according to info, the route over the north hairpin bend in the Edelgrieß is almost impassable and quite dangerous (status 2008). Weather conditions have destroyed the path. There is now also an officially marked route, roughly drawn in the attached map, about 2100 m to the right up to 2270 m.

Up to a crossing at 2360 m, then to secured spots (2430 m) and soon the Edelgrießhöhe at 2489 m is reached.

<strongVIA FERRATA: Difficulties up to grade C
First, flat along path 673 to the start at 2505 m, 100 vertical meters higher you put on the via ferrata equipment. The impressive via ferrata passes over the Niedere Gamsfeldspitze (2611 m) down to 2550 m and to the Hohe Gamsfeldspitze (2655 m). Always up and down we come to the Schmiedstock at 2644 m (possible bypass A-B), descend to the notch around 2600 m and reach via trail traces (B) the Scheichenspitze 2667 m with a beautiful wooden cross. Additional 435 vertical meters.

DESCENT: Briefly back to the notch and descending right to the north (path 673) we reach the main path 618 with a signpost at 2402 m. Now left back to the Edelgrießhöhe 2489 m, where we close the great circuit. On the ascent path over the huge scree gully back down southwards to the pole at 2050 m, past the signpost to the Austria hut, to the Türlwand hut at 1685 m and quickly to the parking lot. 125 vertical meters.

Overall: About 1400 vertical meters over approx. 11 km of path.
