Approach: From the Paolina Hut, head north on Trail No. 552; at the first fork in the trail, turn right and follow Trail No. 551 to the Vajolon Pass. Starting from Ciampedie, take the “Vial de le Feide” and follow the trail markers toward Passo Vajolon (Trail No. 551), which you’ll reach in 2 hours of walking. Route Info: The north ascent of the Rotwand runs from the Vajolon Pass through moderately steep, well-stepped rock terrain that is also well-secured with steel cables. As always, sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential. Descent: Either return via the via ferrata or, preferably, descend on the south side (initially walking terrain, then via ferrata). In the deep saddle between the Rotwand and the Teufelswand, it is possible to descend to the left through a gully to Trail No. 549 (secured at the start) and head south toward the Rotwand Hut.
