Relatively short mountain route, which can however be extended to an interesting round trip around the Rosengarten massif. The ascent and descent via the via ferrata require absolute surefootedness and alpine experience due to the short climbing sections on the approach.
Characteristic: Short via ferrata completely secured with steel cables. A short ladder on the vertical ascent. Approach partly across exposed rock path, short climbing sections of grade I and II difficulty. In spring, winter snow can remain for a long time in the formerly notorious ice gully. The crossing over the hard firn is mostly eased by a rope but should be mastered with special caution. Access: above the Rosengarten Hut (Kölnerhütte), open from 25.6 to 25.9 (restaurant operation until 25.10.), ascend partly secured rocky steps, then via path 542 to the start. The upper part leads exposed and unsecured over short climbing sections (I-II) to the start. Technical details: short via ferrata, completely secured with steel cables, one simple, short ladder ascent, crossing an ice gully in spring (mostly secured on steep sections), the second part of the approach requires absolute surefootedness (unsecured rock path, short climbing sections grade I).
