Funivia Piani d` ErnaTips and suggestions
The picture story shows the described route in the opposite direction, but it is clearly better to do the round as described. It is strongly recommended to complete the two via ferratas with complete safety equipment.Roadbook
Access: Ride the cable car up to Piani d'Erna. Follow the road down to Bocca d'Erna. Here we turn right onto path no. 1/5 and descend through rocky terrain into a valley to a plateau (Pian Fieno) at 1150m. Here path no. 1 branches left to Resegone, we walk briefly through a rocky gorge and then gently uphill through the forest in about 1:30 hours to Rifugio Ghislandi at Passo del Fo (1300m). A path leads up to the start at the base of the south wall.
Ferrata Centenario BC: Chains on the easier sections alternate with steel cables and countless rungs on the harder parts. In between are walking sections. An almost vertical smooth wall (BC) is climbed secured by rope on many rungs with a short traverse up to a rock terrace. A path leads slightly right into a gorge. The vertical chimney (BC) is overcome on the right wall side using rungs. The following grassy rocky gorge (A and walking terrain) leads over several short rock steps (B) and small gorges with steel bars as foot aids (B) up to the grassy slopes of Pian Serrada. The hiking path follows the meadow ridge to the junction with path no. 1, which we continue on with a few bends over grass and rocky steps upwards. At a rocky ridge edge, the path forks: no. 1 leads right effortlessly up to Rifugio Azzoni, we turn left and cross briefly a steep grassy slope to the start of Ferrata Silvano.
Ferrata Silvano de Franco CD: Chain security and sparse foot aids. A first pillar (C) leads to a short traverse (exit possible), the next ridge tower (CD) is split into two vertical walls. Here you can also exit to the parallel scree path on the right. A vertical pillar (CD) leads to a tower that must be downclimbed without protection (II°) on the north side for three meters. Now the ridge slopes back and it goes in short grippy rock steps (AB and exposed walking terrain) up to a notch before the summit rock (nice deep view to Lecco). In a rock groove (A) and a stepped ledge (B, small summit Madonna) it goes around a bulging rock block on the right to the exit just below the summit. Over rocky terrain passing small ridge teeth, you quickly reach the large summit cross of Punta Cermenati (or Punta della Croce).
Sentiero Carlo Villa no. 10: Descent to Rifugio Azzoni on a rocky path with concrete steps. Now we walk on path no. 10 on the north side of Punta Cermenati, Punta Stoppani, and Dente del Resegone up to in front of Cima Pozzi. Here we turn left from the north ridge path into Canalone Bobbio. A rocky grassy slope leads down into the narrow part of the gorge. Several rock steps are now downclimbed secured by chains, with rocky walking terrain in between. The gorge quickly widens, steep grassy slopes and small block rock areas alternate. We leave the steep south walls and partly cross quite exposed at the base of the walls to the right into the steep forest. Soon a large building is reached, behind it an alpine path leads down to Bocca d'Erna. Up the road to the mountain station Piani d'Erna. Descent by cable car or down path 1A via Rifugio Stoppani to the parking lot at the valley station.
